Virginia Marie Merket (Fredy), peacefully passed from this life on February 24, 2024, at the age of 88, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born on November 3, 1935, in San Diego, California, she was the daughter of Mose and Charlotte Fredy. Virginia was tenacious and spirited, and her life was full of devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.
Virginia grew up in southern California and married Melvin Robert “Bob” Merket on October 19, 1958 in Las Vegas, NV. She was a devout mother with a busy home, raising five rambunctious boys. Virginia loved Christ and served and worshipped throughout her life as a Catholic growing up, and later as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had a compassionate heart and spent many years involved in her community, working and volunteering at Opportunity Village with her sons Jeff & Robin. She loved animals and always had a dog or potbelly pig she was caring for or chasing out of the house. Virginia was fun loving, she enjoyed crafting, traveling with her husband Bob and watching sports – she was as loyal to the Lakers as she was to her family.
She is lovingly survived by her grandchildren: Noel (Audrey) Merket, Danielle Merket, Vanessa Joy (Chris) Blatchford, Charlene Merket, Stephanie Merket, Secret Merket, and Jade Uzeta. As well as her great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Lysette, Eli, Autumn, Cooper, Stevie, Ellen, Landon, and Ivory.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob Merket, her parents Mose and Charlotte, her brothers Eugene, Augustine, and Mose Jr, her sister Helen (Gus) Wallace, and her sons Michael Lynn, Stephen Amiel, Robin Marty, Jeffery Cass, and William Gregory.
A Memorial Service for Virginia will be held at Palm South Jones Mortuary in Las Vegas, Nevada, with the service beginning at 1pm, followed by a Graveside Service at 3pm. Those who wish to honor Virginia's memory may contribute to Opportunity Village, an organization close to her heart.
