Evelyn M. Osborne

Evelyn Mary Osborne was born November 8, 1928 in Monserrat, West Indies, to the late Rose Ellen Greenaway and Joseph Greer. She married John Matthew Osborne in 1943, with whom she had eight children and to whom she was married for 22 years.

A shining example of Proverb 31:10, which says “Who can find a virtuous woman, for her worth is far above rubies,” Evelyn Mary Osborne was someone who worked hard for what she wanted, loved deeply lived expectantly and who selflessly an joyfully sacrificed her own personal needs and wants for those of each of her children and grandchildren.

A homemaker throughout her marriage, she took pride in her subsequent work and skill as a keypunch operator for Mercantile Stores for many years, as well as her work in the dietary department at the Coburn Nursing Home.

Evelyn loved her children, grandchildren and great-grand children beyond measure and they knew it, because of her tender loving care. She attended to their needs making many sacrifices for them throughout her life. She also loved making her house a home, whether it was in the projects of East Harlem or the suburbs of Mt. Vernon, NY. She loved decorating, had refined tastes and was diligent about saving to purchase antique pieces for her home, which was one of her favorite past times.

She was also gifted with a keen sense of style and loved dressing well, a characteristic she passed on to all her children. Evelyn was also a music lover and had an innate talent for playing the acoustic guitar, as well as singing hymns and country music. She was also a phenomenal cook, passing along her love, appreciation and gifts for music and cooking, to many of her children.

A beloved mother, grandmother and a woman with quiet strength, fighting spirit and abiding faith, Evelyn leaves behind a powerful legacy of love of family, strength, tenacity, faith and pursuing and achieving dreams.
