On July 16, 2021, at 9:17 am. We got the news that no parents want to hear, that our only son, James, had died of cardiac arrest. He had been battling this terrible heart disease for several years.
James was born on a beautiful spring day in Heidelberg, Germany, on March 17, 1984, but he lived in Heidelberg just for six months.
James spent his early years in the Catskill Mountains. He loved the rural life, hiking, fishing bicycle riding. The Hudson Valley was his special place. He was very interested in the diverse wildlife; deer, turtles, bald eagles, and our chickens, which he fed and raised. His carefree childhood days best describe him and who he was as an adult.
He excelled at school. He was an exceptionally gifted child.
He attended summer camp at the Northern Frontier Baptist Camp for Boys in the Adirondack Mountains. He excelled there. He found his calling at the camp and served as a junior camp counselor there. The camp emphasizes self-reliance and self-worth. We remember his pride in swimming the entire length of the lake for his lifeguard qualification. He also took up Taekwondo and achieved his Yellow Belt.
We moved to Long Island, and he apprenticed at his father’s photo studio, Horizon Photo Group. He learned the creativity of art and the discipline of trade.
