Megan Elizabeth Megahee passed away on October 12th, 2022. After a valiant fight for many years against significant gastrointestinal issues, her brave and stout heart stopped beating. She was 35 years old. Her beloved siblings, parents, stepmother, and aunt were with her when she passed.
Megan was born along with her twin brother Marcus on September 19th, 1987, at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She lived with her family in Stone Mountain Georgia and attended elementary school there. In 1998, the family moved to Lilburn Georgia, where she attended the Gwinnett County school system. She graduated from Parkview High School in 2006.
In her early teen years, Megan was interested in percussion. She began with a few junkie old drums and, after proving her commitment, was gifted with a full set. She took lessons from the legendary Brian Stephens in Atlanta. At fifteen years old, she was invited on stage at a cousin's wedding to play drums with Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts.
In her teen years, Megan was drawn to the sport of soccer, a passion she shared with her dad. She was blazingly fast and played mostly in defense as a sweeper. She was passionate and enthusiastic about the sport.
Megan was also drawn to the performing arts. She was a talented actress, singer, and dancer.
Megan performed in many high school productions, including the lead role in Parkview's 2005 production of "Cinderella."
After high school, Megan regularly participated in local theatre and auditioned for parts in locally produced shows. She was an extra in the comedy "Dumb and Dumberer", the movie "Pitch Perfect III" and appeared in several episodes of "The Vampire Diaries" and one episode of "MacGyver".
Megan worked with Rob Kuhlman at Root Cellar Studios to record several of her original songs. Among the musicians on the songs were her brother Marcus, guitarist Kuhlman, keyboardist Greg Robert, and her dad. The recordings of "In Your Dreams" and "It's Gone" are available on Apple Music.
Megan and her brother Marcus had a special bond between them. In addition to their binding as twins, their common love of vocal music brought them together. They loved to sing together and harmonized beautifully - the harder the parts, the more fun they had singing them. The family has a lovely recording of Megan and Marc covering "Til I Loved You", a popular duet with Barbra Streisand and Don Johnson. They also produced a side-splitting parody version.
Megan and Marcus also connected in their love for British humor. They were avid watchers of British comedy shows, and she would often shout out a line from a show and wait for Marcus to respond with the following line. It was a private communication between two kindred spirits.
Megan loved to dance, and her teen years were filled with spontaneous dance routines with brother Marcus and sister Kris. A favorite was "The Hamster Dance." She auditioned for and won a role in a community production of "Cats." Though she was a graceful and athletic dancer, she often joked that she was "the lame child" because she considered her siblings better dancers.
Megan had a unique sense of humor. She had a talent for picking up an object and using it as a prop to make people laugh. One family example occurred when sister Kris bought a new steering wheel cover. It was covered with an animal print and a large ruffle around the edge. Megan wrapped it around her face and, in her best Bert Lahr voice from the "Wizard of Oz", declared in song that she was "the king of the forest."
In her early twenties, Megan developed a love for writing. She loved paranormal romance stories with strong female characters. Her stories are mostly about victory over painful struggles and the characters are richly developed. She wrote her books in her late twenties when she was already struggling with chronic and severe abdominal pain.
Among her stories is a series of three novels about a young female vampire/werewolf hybrid who felt separated from a natural life and doomed to a life of struggle and sorrow. The first novel is "The Child of Two Worlds", which is available on Amazon under the pen name M. E. Megahee. The family intends to make the remaining novels in the series, "The Book of Lost Tales" and "The Ancient One," available on Amazon as well.
One cannot talk about Megan without mentioning her love for animals, especially dogs. She loved to play, wrestle, and talk to them. She loved her two dogs Nyx and Lady like they were her children. It is her family's belief that Megan is waiting at the far end of the Rainbow Bridge to welcome and play with every dog as it arrives in Heaven.
Megan was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Chester and Myra Alwes, of Louisville, Kentucky and her paternal grandfather, Marcus Megahee, of Warner Robins, Georgia.
She is survived by her paternal grandmother, Hazel Ruth Davis Megahee, her mother, Mary Ann Alwes Megahee, her father Kimberly Marion Megahee, her twin brother Marcus Stephen Megahee, her sister Kristen Kathleen Megahee Kimmel, her brother-in-law James Frank Kimmel, and Kristen's children, Connor Lucas and Jordan Kathleen. Megan also left behind other beloved family members: her stepmother Martha Rice Megahee, her paternal aunt Laura Kathleen Megahee, her maternal uncles Chet and Mark Alwes, and a too-large-to-name set of cousins.
