Murali Akkapeddi was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who left a strong legacy as an accomplished Chemist/Research Scientist. He attended Nizam College and Osmania University in Hyderabad, India obtaining BS and MS degrees. He then came to the United States in 1967 with a scholarship and completed his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Akkapeddi has made significant strides in applied research and polymer chemistry as evidenced by over 50 patents. As the second eldest of ten siblings, he also played a critical role in expanding the Akkapeddi lineage to the United States by advocating and supporting his family members transitioning from India. He loved this country as a proud US citizen while also holding onto Indian values and traditions.
Murali’s curiosity and intelligence were admirable. He enjoyed spending time in the sun, gardening, traveling, and spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He would engage others in deep and intellectual conversations on a broad array of topics ranging from the sciences to history and religion. His love for life was evident in how he celebrated holidays, both Indian and American.
He cared deeply for his family near and far. He was a devoted husband to his wife Nirmala for 54 years. He was a strong and loving father and grandfather. He taught his family the importance of striving for excellence in whatever their endeavors were.
Though his physical presence will be missed dearly, his legacy will live strong through his children, grandchildren, and in all the people he touched.
