

On January 13, 2025, Barbara Clyde Marshall Allen, A Child of God and loving spouse to Robert Shepherd Allen, Ph.D. passed away peacefully at home. She was seventy three years of age. She is survived by her husband Dr. Bob Allen, her sister Mrs. Jean Marshall Allen, her niece Martha Flom Flynn her nephew John Archibald Flynn and Alexander Compton Flynn all of Greenville, South Carolina, her nephew James Flom, niece Caitlin Flom and sister in law Casey Twisdale Florm all of Conway, South Carolina. Barbara was born on July 30, 1951, in New Haven, Connecticut. She was the second child born to Martha Pace Marshall and George Archibald Marshall.
Barbara was a graduate of the Gate School in New Haven and attended the Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio. She graduated from the University of South Carolina on May 12, 1973, with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. She was a cheerleader for the University of South Carolina Football Team. Barbara taught public school in Georgetown and in Columbia, South Carolina where she was awarded “Teacher of the Year” from Richland School District Number One. She possessed great knowledge of sea shells and owned a shop “The Nautilus” at the Village of the Barefoot Trader in Myrtle Beach.
She married Robert S. Allen, Ph.D on December 14, 1984 at the Myrtle Beach Methodist Church. They lived in Columbia, South Carolina, for 15 years and were members of the Trenholm Road Methodist Church prior to being confirmed in the Episcopal Church on April 4, 1995, at St. Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church in Columbia, South Carolina. Upon moving to Myrtle Beach, she was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Shallotte, North Carolina. Eventually she joined the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where she was a member of the Church Women and Daughters of the King. She established herself as a Licensed Realtor and helped and helped form a Tidewater Plantation Book Club. Barbara had an engaging, outgoing personality, and loved people. Her kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness touched many lives. She had a beautiful singing voice. Although in decline, she would sometimes sing “Amazing Grace” when having her nails done at the Walmart.
Barbara’s final resting place is in the Wall of St. Mark, in the Columbarium at St. Stephens Episcopal Church.
