It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Carol (Depagnier) Foley age 81, also affectionately known as “Grammy” to many. She passed peacefully ending her painful battle with dementia. Born in the Bronx, NY on November 2, 1943, she was the daughter of Elva (Kutchenrider) Depagnier and Francis Depagnier who preceded her in death.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Dawn (Foley) Lindsey, son Christopher Foley and his wife Kimberly. She also leaves behind her beloved grandsons Mitchell and Connor Lindsey, a brother James Depagnier (Carol) and nephews Glen and Don Depagnier. A long with many dear friends, neighbors and former clients whom she adored.
Carol enjoyed the many years she lived in City Island, NY where she grew up and started her family. Living near the beach always brought her pleasure. In her younger years she loved boating and water skiing while spending time with her childhood friends whom she kept in touch with throughout the years. Carol and her family moved to Brewster, NY in 1973 where she continued her career as a hairdresser. Several years later she became co-owner of Luv Your Hair located in Carmel, NY. She was extremely fortunate to have a very loyal & wonderful clientele until she decided to retire at the age of 75.
Upon retirement Carol moved to coastal North Carolina to enjoy life at the beach once again. She became fast friends with her active neighbors who invited her to join them volunteering with The Sunset Beach Sea Turtle Patrol as well as The Old Bridge Society of Sunset Beach. She was always eager to help with their fundraisers.
Carol adored spending time with her family. She was a fixture at her grandson’s hockey and lacrosse games. She never missed an opportunity to cheer them on or provide their teammates with delicious treats, especially her signature chocolate dipped pretzels. Shopping was another favorite pastime. Attending flea markets & going to as many Goodwill stores as possible to find the best bargains. Being creative was one of her many talents. Cake decorating, arts & crafts, and the way she artfully wrapped gifts with love. Carol had an extensive Teddy Bear collection, and she considered them family too. In recent years she decided giving some of them away brought her more joy than collecting them. She loved seeing children’s reactions to receiving one of her cherished Teddy’s. Carol was an amazing lady filled with kindness, generosity and compassion than none of us will soon forget. She will be greatly missed. May She Rest in Peace
Carol’s wishes were to be cremated and have her ashes spread in several of her favorite places by her loving family. As per her wishes, no formal funeral service will be conducted.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to Carol’s favorite charities: Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association or a Local Animal Shelters.
