Cheryl Huckins, age 67, of Little River, South Carolina, died suddenly from natural causes on August 26, 2021, while she was at home with her husband Gary Huckins. They had been married for 31 years.
Cheryl was born in Milford, Massachusetts in November 1953, to Neal and Madeline Couch. Cheryl was raised in Hutchinson, Kansas, where she attended Obee Grade School, Buhler High School, and Hutchinson Junior College. Cheryl moved to California, where she met and married James Kelley. They had two sons, Caleb and Ian. After she and James parted ways, Cheryl and her sons moved to Contoocook, New Hampshire.
Cheryl first met Gary Huckins while she was working at Chubb Life Insurance Company in Concord, New Hampshire. They were married 1989. Cheryl and Gary were happy nomads, living in New Hampshire, Connecticut, Florida, Arizona, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Cheryl Huckins is survived by her loving husband Gary; her two sons and their wives, Caleb and Kelsey Kelley, and Ian and Erica Kelley; and by eight grandchildren.
Cheryl also leaves behind her brother, Tom Couch and his wife, Monica of Alabama; her sister, Ellen Welch and her husband, Ronnie Welch of Colorado; her sister-in-law, Nancy Bondurant-Couch; ten nieces and nephews, many cousins, and many dear friends. Cheryl was predeceased by her father, Neal Couch, her mother, Madeline Couch, and her brother, Richard Couch.
Cheryl was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend. She had a quirky humor with a wonderful, dry wit. Cheryl was always ready with a joke or a pointed funny comment. Her passing leaves an empty space in her large and loving family that will not be easily filled. Cheryl was an avid reader. Her idea of a perfect day was one spent at the beach, reading books, in the company of family, friends, and her two dogs, Sophie and Lucy. Cheryl loved being near the ocean, and so a private remembrance is being planned for family and friends, near Nubble Lighthouse in York, Maine.
