

Don was born in Westmoreland, TN to Paul and Pauline Troutt (both deceased) and graduated from Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, IN. He married the love of his life, Diana, in 1965. They had 2 wonderful children, Dana and Kathy, and a loving and supportive extended family.
Don joined the USMC Reserves while in high school and went on to serve our country as a proud Marine for 23 years. He served on the USS Hermitage, was an embassy guard in Rome, Switzerland and Yugoslavia, a drill instructor/platoon leader at USMC Recruit Depot in San Diego, and served one tour of duty in Vietnam and Okinawa, Japan. He and his family were stationed in various locations including Glenview Naval Air Station (Glenview, IL), Marine Corps Air Station (Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii), and MCAS Cherry Point (Havelock, NC). After retiring from the Marines, Don worked for GE Aircraft Engines for 19 years in various logistics roles.
In 2000, Don and Diana retired to Little River, SC and were active members at River Hills Golf & Country Club for many years enjoying the social and golf events with an abundance of treasured friends. Don was a fun-loving guy who loved music and was often singing, humming or whistling a tune. He sang in the choir at Little River United Methodist Church and was a favorite Karaoke singer at local restaurants. He loved spending time with his family at the beach, pool and on the golf course. Don was a Christian, proud Marine/American, devoted husband, loving father (in-law), grandfather, great-grandfather, cousin, uncle, neighbor, and friend.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Diana, his children, Dana Troutt (Kristi) of Cary, NC, Kathy Shipman (Mike) of Youngsville, NC; his grandchildren, Spencer and Justin Troutt of Cary, NC, Bethany Shipman (Chris Shupe) of Newburg, MO, Hannah Hamilton (James) of Rapid City, SD and Caleb Shipman of Wake Forest, NC, great grandchildren William and Andrew Hamilton of Rapid City, SD and Riley (woof).
A celebration of life will be held on July 19, 2025, at 1:00 pm, at Little River United Methodist Church, 1629 US-17, Little River, SC 29566.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach.
A family burial is being planned and will take place at a military national cemetery.
