She is survived by her daughter, Janet Hodges (Jimmy), her son, Joseph Shepherd; her grandchildren, Jenny L. Hodges, James C. Hodges, and Karl Shepherd; and four great-grandchildren, who brought her much joy and pride. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph H. Shepherd, and her daughter, Sandra L. Esther had a gift for working with her hands and a heart for giving. Her crocheted baby blankets were treasured by every new parent who received them, and her handmade lap blankets brought warmth and comfort to countless nursing home residents. A jigsaw puzzle was always in progress on her table, a testament to her patience and love for quiet, thoughtful moments.
A faithful member of First Baptist Church of Little River, Esther found deep joy in her church family and was an active part of the Lady Bugs women's group. Her German nut roll was a cherished treat among friends and family. Esther's life was a beautiful example of grace, devotion, and kindness. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens.
Lee Funeral Home and Crematory of Little River is serving the family.
