Where life seems to be simple,
But means a lot to me.
Life goes around in a cycle
The waves that break on the sand,
the tide that comes in,
From high to low and back out again.
To smell the marsh and the salt smell of the sea,
That is when you’re close to me
To see the gulls and dolphins and the wildlife of the sea
Just like them, always free
My tombstone will be the waves, the sand dunes and blue sky.
So when my daughter’s and their babies want to be close to me,
Be close to the ocean and always free.”
Love you always my babies
Green grass and high tides forever…
George Anthony Bessent, 65, passed away Saturday morning, December 11, 2021 at home with his loving family by his side. Born in Loris, George was a son of the late William Kellum Bessent and Floy Henry Bessent.
Having always lived in Little River, George loved everything about the area. The riverfront held a special place in his heart and he never wanted to be too far from home. A deep-sea angler by trade, if George wasn’t on the water fishing, he was still enjoying outdoor living. He loved being in his yard, whether mowing the lawn or gardening.
Known as “Grandpa” by those he loved the greatest, George was the grandfather of three grandsons and one granddaughter. He was the father of two daughters and time spent with his children and grandchildren was treasured.
Surviving are his daughters, Amanda Pearce (Tony), Wanda Blackmon (Kenny); four grandchildren, Houston, Hunter, Dezmon, Destin; and sister, Marcella Willis. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Bessent and sisters, Willie Frances Gregory and Betty Amick.
