Porter was the son of the late George and Betty Smith Kennington. He was a graduate of Lancaster High School, Presbyterian College, and Winthrop University, where he received his Masters in School Leadership. His early years in education were focused on teaching and coaching, as athletics was close to his heart. Porter retired as a high school administrator, and he was honored to serve students, teachers, and fellow administrators in Florence, Lee, Chesterfield, and Horry Counties during his thirty plus year career.
Porter was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Neal Kennington; children, Allison Kennington Isenberg (Ian); Kevin Porter Kennington (Jennifer); and grandson, Bryce Cooper Kennington. He is also survived by his siblings, Ann Brodie (Walter); John Kennington (Meridy); Betsy Good (Steve); David Kennington (Dianne); and Scott Kennington (Barbara); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Most importantly, Porter was a believer in Jesus Christ. He was an active member in First Baptist Church of North Myrtle Beach, until his illness. He especially enjoyed serving as a Sunday School teacher for the Faith, Hope, and Love Class. His hope is that you, also, may have a personal relationship with Jesus.
