Joann was the devoted and loving wife of Francis A. Bedard, with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. She was born on November 14, 1948, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Phyllis and Joseph Sortino.
Joann dedicated many years of service to the Naugatuck Board of Education. She was also a proud military wife, to her husband, a Vietnam veteran. In retirement, Joann worked at Cracker Barrel, where she found great joy in serving others and mentoring those around her. Her kindness, generosity, and care for people left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Above all, Joann cherished her family and friends. She had a special place in her heart for her beloved dogs—Chloe, Coco, and every dog she encountered along the way. Known for her commitment to “showing up”, Joann was someone who could always be counted on—no matter the hour, she would be there to listen, comfort, and advise.
Joann is survived by her two sons, Brian (Kim) Bedard, and Brandon (Karyn) Bedard, her five cherished grandchildren, Lauren Bedard, Maddie (Matt) Moran, Mason Bedard, Cate Bedard, and Makenna Bedard, her niece, Kim Fentress and several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Francis, her sister, Judy Greene, and her brother, Robert Sortino.
A “celebration of life” service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Elim Park, 150 Cook Hill Road, Cheshire, Connecticut.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.leefhandcrematory.com for the Bedard family.
