

John H. Norton, 86, of Carolina Shores, NC, passed away peacefully following a long illness, on February 20, 2018 at Grand Strand Hospital, Myrtle Beach, SC. He is survived by his wife, Betty and her family; brother, Philip and wife Suzanne of Springfield, VA; three sons, Christopher, Richard and wife Tammie, William and wife Amy and the sons’ mother, all of Pittsburgh, PA; two stepsons; Randy Foster of Birmingham, AL, Lee and Becky Foster of Atlanta, GA and nine grandchildren.
He was born on January 10, 1932 in Champaign, IL, the son of Ethan and Marguerite Norton. He grew up in the Washington, DC area and was a graduate of Bethesda Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda, MD, and the University of Maryland where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and served in a forward reconnaissance unit.
John’s career was with United States Steel Corporation as a labor relations manager. He was responsible for USS facilities in the east and Midwest.
Upon retirement in 1989, he moved to Carolina Shores, NC and became a real estate broker.
John enjoyed the weather, the beaches and ocean, the hospitality of the locals, and above all, the wonderful golf, the great restaurants, and the good and faithful friends he met along the way.
A memorial service will be held at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory on Sunday, March 4 at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends following the service.
