Julia B. Meyers, 65, passed away September 13, 2023 in New Bern, North Carolina due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Born on March 16, 1958, in Atlanta, Georgia she was the daughter of Norma Armstrong Bennett and the late James G. Bennett.
Although happiest when she was on the back of a bike, Julia was a lover of the outdoors whether riding, tending her garden, or soaking up the sun while sitting by the water. Evenings were enjoyed sitting on the dock at the home of her daughter and son-in-law watching the sunset with them and her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Her faithful and loving “four-legged” companion Angel was always by her side.
Julia was a proud and faithful supporter of the Georgia “Bulldogs” and also enjoyed baseball. She loved line dancing, yoga, and was a phenomenal baker who shared her delectable baked goods with those she loved. Julia had a great respect for our Armed Services and spent countless hours dedicating her time volunteering with the local VA home.
Realizing that you cannot give away something you do not have and wanting to help others so desperately, Julia began her life in sobriety 25 years ago. She dedicated her life to try and help others get and stay sober. It would be impossible to count the number of people that she has touched with her service in the program. For many years Julia volunteered with CASA and others in need of help.
Julia is survived by her children Mercedes Ryder (Nicholas) and Jason C. Meyers; one brother, Frank Bennett (Kathy) and four grandchildren, Mason (Karisa), Grayson, Olivia and Hailey.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to CASA. In Julia’s honor and memory, please remember those still suffering in your thoughts and prayers that one day they too will have the peace of sobriety.
