

Kathleen C. Ball, age 96, of Carolina Shores, North Carolina passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, October 30, 2022. Born in Freeport, New York on October 21, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Mary McGinn O’Meally.
She survived by her children, Susan Pombo-Ball and her husband Esteban of Switzerland, Donald E. Ball and his wife Maureen of Dobbs Ferry, New York, Lauren Nigro of Carolina Shores, North Carolina, Douglas Ball and his wife Michelle of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, Kathleen Carlyle and her children’s father Peter of Moorestown, New Jersey; grandchildren, Sarah Ball, Alexander Pombo-Ball, Jacqueline Ball (Kevin Dahms), Catherine Ball, John Ball (Kayla Carey), Sean Carlyle, William Carlyle, Kevin Carlyle, Aaron Carlyle; brother, Edmund O’Meally of Westminster, Maryland; sister-in-law, Alice Ball Chandler of San Antonia, Texas; along with numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, friends and her beloved quilting group. Kathleen also survived by her first great-grandchild that is due to arrive soon.
She was preceded in death by her parents along with her husband, Donald E. Ball of Calabash, North Carolina, originally from San Antonio, Texas; sister, Evelyn Dodds and her husband Homer of Vermont; brother, John O’Meally and his wife Georgia O’Meally of Freeport, New York and later of Calabash, North Carolina; sisters-in-law, Barbara O’Meally of Westminster, Maryland, Florence Ball Shilo and her husband William Shilo of San Antonio, Texas; son-in-law, Joseph J. Nigro of New York and later Calabash, North Carolina.
Beautiful, positive, intelligent, faith-filled, optimistic and loyal were all characteristics that described Kathleen. Living on Long Island, New York most of her life; Kathleen briefly lived in Texas after marrying the love of her life Donald. Kathleen loved and embraced every moment of life. She had many careers and constantly reinvented herself. Kathleen worked in New York City as a secretary, raised five children and sold advertising for the local paper prior to going back to college in her 40’s to obtain her degree and become a career counselor. Kathleen and her husband Donald moved to North Carolina over 30 years ago beginning a new chapter of life. Once the passing of her husband, Kathleen embraced new journeys that included joining clubs, making new friends, traveling and most importantly, becoming a grandmother. During the summer and on holidays, Kathleen’s doors were always opened to her family to come and visit.
Kathleen adored her family and friends. She supported her children through many career choices, children and marriages. She loved her daughters-in-law and sons-in-law as if they were her own. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, they cherished her as much as she did them.
Visitation for Kathleen will be held Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory. A funeral mass will occur Friday, November 4, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church with burial to follow at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens
