Philip E. (Flip) Daly, 75, died peacefully at his home in Little River, SC on June 13, 2020. He was the son of the late Edward P. and Catherine (McCormick) Daly. Phil is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer, daughter Jackie Landrey and her husband Tom of Hebron, CT and son Ted and his wife Libby of Colchester, CT. He is also survived by his three shining stars, granddaughter Katie Landrey (husband Elliott Ackroyd) and grandsons J.P. and Michael Landrey.
Phil was born in Holyoke, MA on September 17, 1944. He graduated from Holyoke HS and went on to Springfield College. While attending Springfield he met and married the love of his life, Jennifer Williams, and graduated with a BS degree in Physical Education in 1966. In 1967 he took his first job at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN where he taught and coached swimming and soccer. In 1970 he and his family moved back east and in 1971 they moved to Bolton CT where they lived for 43 years. Phil taught Physical Education and was both the Men's Cross Country and Swim Team Coach at Wethersfield High School for 8 years and then left to take a sales position at Ro-Vic, Inc. in Manchester, CT, where he retired after 34 years.
Phil was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was a member of the Tallwood Men’s Club in Hebron, CT for over 40 years, serving as president in 1978. He was also the first recipient of the Tallwood Men’s Club Distinguished Service Award in 2000. He loved fishing out of his kayak on the various lakes in and around Frankfort MI, where he spent his summers and on the Inter Coastal waters while in South Carolina. He was an active member of St Maurice Catholic Church in Bolton for 43 years and when he moved to SC he attended Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church where he served as a lector, worked the pantry and delivered food to shut in parishioners.
Phil had the amazing ability to light up any room he walked into and was always ready with a joke or story. But more importantly he was a dear friend to so many who could always be counted on for help, encouraging words, random (often anonymous) acts of kindness and endless love. He will forever be missed.
Phil is preceded in death by his brother, Edward P. Daly, Jr. and sister, Patricia Ann Townsend.
