Ricky D. Thompson

Ricky Dale Thompson, age 77, of Longs, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025. Born on November 1, 1947, in Wampee, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Carl and Katherine Thompson.

Survivors include his wife of over 20 years, Joyce Thompson; sons, Curtis Thompson and wife Kendra, Chris Thompson and wife JaQuasia; brothers, Rex Thompson and Don Thompson; sister, Judy Thompson; step son, Billy Barlow; step daughter, Juliette Newman; grandchildren, Kayce Layne and Magnolia Dorothea; step grandchildren, River and Rayni; He was preceded in death by his parents along his siblings, Jimmy, Jerry, Diane, Larry, Debbie, Billie Jean and his granddaughter, Ellynor Fayth.

Born and raised in the Wampee community, Ricky was a graduate of Wampee-Little River High School class of 1965. Ricky was the epitome of a hard worker. He was the owner of Ricky Thompson and Sons Heating and Air Conditioning which he proudly opened in 1980. There were three simple things Ricky’s life revolved around. Those three things were his family, the heating and air business, and horses. When Ricky wasn’t working on a HVAC unit, he was working horses. Ricky loved being on the farm.

A veteran of the United States Army, Ricky served as a military police officer in Korea. Ricky was stern but was also willing to lend anyone in need a helping hand. He had such an impact on so many others and his memory will forever endure.

The Thompson family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory. A funeral service for Ricky will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Longs.
