
Robert Scott Covington, Jr. passed peacefully December 30, 2018 at McLeod Seacoast Hospital.
Scott was born August 1, 1934 in Evergreen, NC, son of Robert Scott Covington, Sr. and Grace Burns Covington (Jolley). He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 43 years, Carolyn Webb Covington.
Scott leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Joy Covington O’Nale (Bryan) and Sherrie Hauer (Joe); grandchildren, Ashley O’Nale and Travis Hauer (Alex); his brother, Harold G. Covington (Julia); sisters, Sylvia Scott (Alan), Faye Myers (Larry) and Carol Ellington (David); and sister-in-law, Helen Merritt (Kermit). He was also blessed with a host of cherished nieces, nephews and beloved cousins.
Scott retired from the US Airforce as a Master Sargent. He obtained an Associate of Arts Degree and an Associate of Applied Science Degree from Spokane Community College. He was also a licensed real estate broker and contractor.
Scott was a true renaissance man, a world traveler, an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and golf. He was a talented artist. He was a pilot of planes, a sailor of boats and a captain of yachts, a connoisseur of fine wine, spirits, and cigars. Scott embraced life, new experiences and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Scott was a generous benefactor to Wake Forest University and other institutions of higher education, to honor the memory of his cherished wife, Carolyn. In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable donation in his honor to a charity near to your heart.
