Robert “Bob” Wayne Poole, age 83, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on the evening of January 16, 2024 with his beloved wife, Cathy and daughter, Jean, by his side. Born on June 28, 1940, he was primarily raised by his grandmother, “Mama” Poole in Raleigh, North Carolina. In 1958, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy and later selected the rate Cryptologic Technician (CTR). This era took Bob and his family many places such as San Diego, Germany, Florida, Japan, Turkey and Ft. Meade Maryland. In 1969, he earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer, an elite accomplishment in the United States Navy.
In 1978, Chief Poole’s watch ended and he transitioned to civilian life where he worked for Lockheed Martin in Maryland and England for 20 years. After retiring again from another successful career, he and his wife Cathy moved from Annapolis, Maryland to the Tidewater Community in North Myrtle Beach. Bob then began his next endeavor, which was his retirement job as a “starter” for the Dunes Beach and Golf Club for 12 years. You could always tell by Bob’s sock tan just how much he loved being on the golf course.
Bob Poole enjoyed reading, telling old chief sea stories, playing golf, rooting for the Washington Redskins and spending time with his beloved family. The Poole family continues to carry on a traditional Christmas party since 1965, which Bob was able to attend this past December of 2023. The Poole family Christmas party will be missing a pillar but will continue on and carry Bobs memory along with it.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Cathy Poole; son, David Poole; daughter, Jean Poole; brother, Johnny Poole; sister, Judy Stancil, cousin, Bonnie Holland; brothers-in-law, Mark Heinrich, Glenn Heinrich; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.
