Thomas Edmond Griffin, Jr. (Tom), 75, of North Myrtle Beach, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Friday, January 5, 2018, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Tom was born in Wadesboro, NC, on August 1, 1942, the son of the late Thomas E. Griffin, Sr., and Mary Charlotte Nelme of Ansonville, NC. Tom married June Austin, his wife and best friend for over 52 years, on September 25, 1965.
Tom studied Civil Engineering at NC State University and worked all over the southeast, including the NC Highway Commission in Raleigh, Rinker Materials in West Palm Beach, and Bickerstaff Clay Products in Columbus, GA. He previously owned a snack and vending business and an embroidery shop in Rockingham, NC, and most recently enjoyed his work in the pre-engineered metal building and light gauge steel industry as a co-owner of W.R. Strait Company of Little River, SC.
Survivors include his wife, June; sons, Trey Griffin and Brian Yarborough of Bluffton and Jeff Griffin of Little River, SC; daughter, Renee Griffin of North Myrtle Beach; granddaughter, Lyla Griffin of Little River; brothers, Bennett Griffin (Barbara) of Columbia, SC, and David Griffin (Tammy) of Albemarle, NC; sister, Charlotte Jenkins (Henry) of Matthews, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He was a friend to many, and his quick and hearty laugh (and, yes, his zingers, too) will be missed by all. An ardent NCSU supporter, he loved his Wolfpack football and basketball teams.
The family will receive friends at Lee Funeral Home on Friday, January 12th, 2018, from 1 to 3pm. The family will gather to honor Tom’s life at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in Tom's memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, PO Box 98018, Washington, DC 20090-8018 or online at www.lls.org.
