Born on December 13, 1958, in Ft. Bragg, NC, Vera was the beloved daughter of the late Fannie (Farmer) and Arthur Hawley, Jr. She was a 1977 graduate of Spring Valley High School and earned her degree cum laude from Coastal Carolina University in 1998.
Vera was a warm and generous spirit whose laughter was contagious and whose heart overflowed with love. Her gift for bringing joy to others—whether through a witty remark or a heartfelt smile—made her a light in the lives of all who knew her. Her memory will continue to shine brightly.
She dedicated her life to service and education, working as an elementary school teacher at North Myrtle Beach Primary School. Vera also served her community as an EMT and officer of the North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad. Her passion for helping others was matched only by her love for animals—especially her cherished cats Spike and Baby, and her granddogs Bailey and Brody.
Vera had a special fondness for Snoopy and the “Peanuts” gang, a reflection of her playful and loving nature.
She was the devoted wife of R. Bruce Langston, Jr., with whom she shared 33 wonderful years of marriage. Vera is also survived by her son Andrew Neeves and his wife Chastity of Williamsburg, VA; her sister Diane Worley of Rocky Mount, NC; her sister Cora Nevitt and brother Randy Hawley, both of Lexington, SC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Arthur R. Hawley, and her niece Vickie Flowers.
In honor of Vera’s lifelong love for animals, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Kind Keepers Animal Rescue, 1500 LD Drive, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582.
