

Born in 1937 in Bennettsville, South Carolina, Bill was the son of the late Mary Sue Parker Ramsey and Walter Ramsey. He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Casa Grande before beginning a 37-year career with Southern Railway and later Norfolk Southern Railway, which began in Virginia. During his years with the railroad, he lived in Raleigh and Asheville, and later became a longtime resident of Greenville, South Carolina. A lifelong train enthusiast, he continued repairing equipment after retirement and operated a small engine repair business, always helping friends and neighbors.
Bill was a faithful member of Mauldin Baptist Church and a talented photographer who captured special moments for his church and community. He also loved music, playing trombone in the Bennettsville High School band and later supporting his daughters as a proud “band dad.”
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Martha L. Ramsey; his daughters, Susan Ramsey Platt (Hunter), Shirley Ramsey Slagle (Tommy), and Sandra Ramsey Turner (Chuck); his grandchildren, TJ Slagle, Jessica Slagle, Ramsey Platt, Philip Turner, and Beau Turner; and his great-grandchildren, Aubree Slagle and Urijah Slagle. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Ramsey, and nephews, Chuck and Lee Ramsey.
An inurnment will be held at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens with military honors on May 9th at 11:00 a.m. Services will be conducted by Reverend Hal Mitchell.

Bill will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and deep love for his family.
