

Bruce was born in Bedford, VA on March 10, 1949 to parents Perry and Nellie Lawson, now deceased. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Connie; their only daughter, Jennifer, of Wilmington, NC; a sister, Sue Lawson-Campbell, of Darlington, SC and two furry grand dogs, Henry and Tucker.
Bruce graduated from Asheboro High School in 1967 and East Carolina University in 1971. He then began a successful career in banking from which he retired in 2004. During that time he was a devoted Rotarian that helped to charter Rotary chapters in Greensboro, NC and Cary, NC. In addition, he was a recipient of the distinguished Paul Harris Fellow. In 2000, he was honored as Apex Citizen of the Year for his leadership as a founding member of the Apex Festival Commission. Following retirement and a move to North Myrtle Beach, SC, he was involved in various volunteer activities including Seacoast Medical Center; Myrtle Beach Harley Owners Group (HOG), serving as treasurer for the past two years, and was involved with multiple activities in his church, Ocean Drive Presbyterian, to include a driver for Hope’s Kitchen, a member of the Drama Team and an usher for Sunday service.
The family will receive friends in two locations, N. Myrtle Beach, SC and Asheboro, NC. A service will be held at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church (410 6th Ave) in North Myrtle Beach, SC at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 23 and the family will receive friends following the service. A visitation will then be held from 1:00 – 2:30 pm on Saturday, March 25 at Pugh Funeral Home (437 Sunset Ave) in Asheboro, NC. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery at 3:00 pm.
