Yvette Marie Fournier

Yvette Marie Marcotte Fournier, 89 of Southport, NC, died Friday, January 1, 2021 at Anderson Oaks Assisted Living Community. Yvette was born in Sainte-Monique, Quebec, Canada. She is the daughter of Philippe Marcotte and Angelina Daneau and had 4 brothers and 4 sisters: Maurice, Francoise, Lucille, Gerard, Theresa, Hector, Emile (Aime), and Laurence.

Yvette spent her childhood on her family’s dairy farm in Ste. Monique. She met her husband, Joseph Albert Fournier, in Canada through her sister Teresa in 1947. They were married on December 27, 1952. They lived in Barre, VT for 13 years where they had a daughter, Suzan. She loved being a mom, housewife, and taking care of her family. Her native language is French, but she learned to speak and write English as an adult while living in Barre. She became a US citizen in 1962.

Yvette and Joseph moved to Plantsville, CT where they both worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. She worked as a Crib Tool Assembler for 22 years. They moved to Enterprise, AL in 1992 upon their retirement to be near family. They lived there for 5 years before moving to Southport, NC.

Yvette and Joseph spent the remaining 23 years of their lives in Southport and enjoyed their retired life there. They were active members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage before Joseph passed away on August 7, 2020. They were never apart. Their roles reversed toward the end of their lives and Joseph took care of Yvette as she struggled with Alzheimer’s.

Yvette loved flowers and working outside in her flower gardens. She was a great cook and would prepare meals she knew her family loved. She loved to knit, travel, and visit with her family. Her and her husband loved to walk their dog, Maple, and became neighborhood favorites.

Yvette is survived by her daughter, Suzan (Earl); three grandchildren, Chris (Eva), Tracy (Joe), and Amy; and three great grandchildren, Jack, Ella, and Evan.

Per Yvette’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. Instead, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Organization at:
