When Dr. E. Allan Speidell passed away on October 19, 2019, the world lost a man of compassionate healing and the Speidell family lost a piece of their hearts. Edmund Allan Speidell was born June 4, 1933, the second of the five sons of Henry William and Viola Myrtle Oldroyd Speidell. He graduated from Millburn High School, Williams College and George Washington University School of Medicine.

Early in his career, during the Vietnam era, Dr. Speidell served in the U.S. Army for two years. Major Speidell then returned to his practice of internal medicine with Dr. Kevin Leen in Livingston, N.J. A dedicated physician, he will be remembered with gratitude by the countless people he helped over his long medical career.

Dr. Speidell served as the team physician for Madison and Millburn High Schools, encouraging and guiding many young athletes in the area. He loved his family, friends, sports, photography, nature, dogs and the ranch he owned in Montana.

He is pre-deceased by his parents, his older brother, the Rev. Henry Speidell, sisters-in-law Ruth and Bonnie Speidell, nephew David Speidell and niece Karen White. He is survived by his three younger brothers, Walter Speidell (Phyllis), Richard Speidell (Gayle), and Paul Speidell (Mary), 10 nieces and nephews and their children.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 27, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mount Pleasant Ave, Livingston, New Jersey, 07039. Dr. Speidell will be laid to rest in a private family burial.

Dr. Speidell became our family Doctor when we moved to Livingston in 1973 until he retired. We have fond memories of him as a kind and caring professional. He is in our thoughts and prayers.

Doc was our Doctor and so much more to the Marmon and DeAngelo families. He was our beloved friend. Always there when you needed him and never did he turn a deaf ear to any questions or problems one had. His hospitality at his home was always filled with laughter and fun. We will miss your smile and quiet demeanor forever. Until we meet again we loved you now and always. Beverly DeAngelo nee Marmon

Allan was a wonderful person to know. He was devoted to his family, friends and patients, and always had time for them. He always put others ahead of himself. I can’t think of my memories of him and his friendship without a smile coming to my face.
When he greeted you at his home or office, you could see immediately that he was genuinely glad to see you. He loved company and he was happiest when he had a houseful of guests.
He will be missed, but not forgotten. Wouldn’t the world be a so much better place if more people acted as he did.
