With heavy hearts and profound love, the family of Emily Yung-Chia Bosland O’Malley announces her untimely passing on December 24, 2024, near Mont-Tremblant, Canada, following a tragic snowmobile accident while on Christmas holiday with her family.
Born on February 21, 1976, to Kenneth and Ching-Lin (Sue) Bosland, Emily was a shining light to all who knew her. Her kindness, warmth and genuine spirit touched countless lives. She always saw the best in people.
Emily was the loving wife of John O’Malley, with whom she shared a deep and enduring love for 27 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter and adventure. Emily was an extraordinary mother to Gavin and Erica O’Malley, always putting their needs first and nurturing them into thoughtful, compassionate individuals. She was also a wonderful daughter, remarkable sister and best friend to her brother Bryant Bosland, diligent colleague, fun-loving athlete, caring member of the Livingston community and devoted friend to many. Her sincerity, thoughtfulness and gentle kindness endeared her to all who knew her.
Raised in Livingston, NJ, Emily graduated from Livingston High School before attending Lehigh University, where she earned a degree in Finance. After completing her studies, she returned home, married John and embarked on a successful career. She and John eventually settled into the same home that had once been her grandparents’, creating a space filled with cherished memories and love.
Emily’s life was defined by her love for family, community and adventure. An avid athlete, Emily found joy in volleyball, track and coaching. For nearly 20 years, she volunteered as a coach for the local recreational track program, inspiring countless young athletes. She loved exploring the world with her family, traveling both domestically and abroad to share new cultures and experiences with her kids. And she really loved live performances: Emily recently saw Taylor Swift, Foo Fighters, Goo Goo Dolls, Jingle Ball and Aladdin; she herself was graced with a beautiful voice and we will forever cherish the duets she sang with Erica.
A consummate professional, Emily was admired and respected during her career at JPMorgan Chase, where she was known for her collaborative spirit, thoughtfulness and meticulous attention to detail. Her colleagues greatly valued her positivity.
Above all, Emily’s greatest joy and most significant accomplishment were her children. She fostered strength, compassion, and integrity in Gavin and Erica, raising bright and happy individuals. She was a constant presence at their lacrosse, track and basketball games. She nurtured them with love, laughter and a deep sense of purpose. Emily’s own zest for life is evidenced in Gavin and Erica.
Emily is survived by her loving husband, John Kevin O'Malley; her beautiful children, Gavin Tyler O'Malley and Erica Jade O'Malley of Livingston, NJ; her parents, Kenneth and Ching-Lin Bosland of Chesapeake City, MD; and her brother, Bryant Bosland of Los Angeles, CA. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Eileen O'Malley Garza of Ridgeland, SC, along with many cherished relatives, friends, nieces, and nephews who loved her deeply.
A visitation to celebrate Emily’s life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home in Livingston, NJ. The O'Malley family invites friends and loved ones to join them for a repast on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 12:30 pm at Hanover Manor in East Hanover, NJ.
