On June 25th, a true servant to the Jersey City community after a courageous battle with cancer, Dr. Emmanuel F. Ricciardelli, Jr. (Livingston, NJ) entered the kingdom of heaven. He was surrounded by the love of his family. Dr. Ricciardelli was born in Jersey City, NJ (4/5/1937) where he practiced ophthalmology for 57 years. He was on staff at Christ Hospital and St. Francis. Dr. Ricciardelli attended undergrad at St. Peter’s College in Jersey City. He then attended medical school at the age of 19 at Loyola University of Chicago. While completing his residency at St. Michael’s Hospital in Newark Emmanuel married the love of his life, Angela Apostolico, head of nursing. His specialty training followed soon after at Harlem Eye and Ear in New York City. Angela and Emmanuel were married on June 30, 1963. Shortly after opening his practice he was drafted to serve in the medical corps as a Captain at an evacuation hospital, Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Emmanuel was known for his love of music. Being an accomplished pianist, he and Angela, a vocalist, often entertained at family functions. For Emmanuel and Angela, the family meant everything. He loved to host parties, especially around his prized pool. He took pleasure in sharing his desire to entertain. Emmanuel threw a party like no other. You knew when you were in his presence it meant you were in for a treat. For Emmanuel parties included: Elvis impersonators, opera singers, show dancers, and casino nights. Elegance and grace was a top priority for these black tie events. After these memorable events, Emmanuel would often turn to his guest and say, “now that’s bounty for you”; an expression that will stay within our hearts forever.
Attending his nieces and nephew’s weddings also were so important to him. He was summoned to either drive the bride and groom or honored guests in his 1972 Lincoln Town Car during these celebrations, something that he was so proud to do.
Emmanuel’s love for life and living each day to the fullest is what he did and would want his family and friends to continue doing. He never let an evening go by without the love of his life, Angela by his side either watching Jeopardy, going to cocktail hours, walking the Livingston oval, attending Mass, or going to NYC, Emmanuel projected his love for life on everyone he encountered.
Emmanuel was preceded by his mother Olga Maria (Alfieri) Ricciardelli, Dr. Emmanuel F.
