

Ernest was born on February 14, 1932 in Newark, NJ. He attended and graduated from Barringer High School in 1949. In 1950, he enlisted in the US Army. Ernest served in the Army until 1954 and left as a Non-Commissioned Officer. After leaving the US Army, he was employed by NJ Blue Cross Blue Shield in the accounting department. He quickly rose to the Director of the accounting department. In 1968, he, along with his twin brother, purchased Karigs Livingston Hardware in Livingston, NJ, where he enjoyed creating displays as well as forming lifelong friendships.
Ernest retired in 2014 to pursue his hobby of militaria. Ernest also enjoyed vacationing in Cape May with his family as well as making countless trips to West Point Military Academy where he supported and attended West Point football games.
Predeceased by his sister-in-law Elisa Passerini and his niece, Carla Schaafsma, Ernest is survived by his twin brother, Carl, his nephew Richard and his wife Maria, his grand-niece Adriana and her husband Larry, his grand-nephew Dante and his wife Gabrielle, along with great grand nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Ernest will be held Friday, June 14, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mount Pleasant Ave, Livingston, NJ 07039. Following the visitation will be an entombment from 10:45 AM to 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Cemetery & Mausoleum, 340 Ridge Road, North Arlington, NJ 07031.
