

George Frederic “Fritz” Hoffman who was 86 years old, lived in Livingston, NJ passed from us on February 22, 2020. Fritz was born on July 12, 1933 in Philipsburg PA. Beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather. He attended Philipsburg High School, graduated from Indiana State College in 1959 and earned his Masters degree from Penn State University in 1964. Fritz served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He was married on August 19, 1961 in Swissvale, Pennsylvania to Dolores Horcholic.
Fritz was a teacher at heart. He taught at Hampton Township High School before moving to New Jersey and taking a teaching position at Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey. Fritz taught at Columbia from the 60’s through the 90’s touching thousands of lives. He also taught at Union County College and The Pingry School. Teaching was truly who he was as a person, in his vocation and even with his children. Fritz enjoyed photography, electronics, repair work and general tinkering. He loved to know how things worked. Fritz was a quiet man who dedicated himself to his family, always had a kind word and was always there to lend a hand.
Fritz is survived by his wife Dolores, brother John Hoffman and wife Joan, sons David and Steven, daughter Susan, daughter and son in law Dena Hoffman and Evans Lazzaro, grandchildren Andre Hoffman, Milena Hoffman, Sarah Wolosin and husband Steven, Amanda Delgado, Tia Sandt and husband Codey, Michael Lazzaro, Matthew Lazzaro, Teresa Lazzaro, Alexandra and Zeva Hoffman and great grandchild Sophia Sandt
A visitation will be held at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home at 145 East Mount Pleasant Ave., Livingston, NJ on March 1 from 2:00 to 4:00. A funeral mass will be held at St. Philomena Church at 386 South Livingston Ave., Livingston, NJ on March 2 at 10:30.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the American Heart Association. Thank you to the doctors and nurses at Morristown Memorial Hospital who saw him through his last days.
