

John E. Michaels, Jr., 83, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014 at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. His family will receive relatives and friends at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., on Thursday, 3-8 PM. The Funeral Mass celebrating his life will be offered at St. Rose of Lima Church, 316 Ridgedale Ave., East Hanover, on Friday at 11 AM and everyone is invited to please go directly to church. The committal service will follow at Restland Memorial Park, 77 DeForest Ave., East Hanover. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
John was born in Livingston and lived and raised his family until moving to Wharton four years ago. He served his nation and U.S. Air Force honorably seeing action in the Korean War. As a veteran, he was Past Commander and current chaplain of the Livingston VFW Post #2856 and Past Commander of District #4. John also received the NJ Distinguished Service Medal.
John was a member and past president of the Livingston Lions Club, past president of Livingston’s UNICO and Babe Ruth League where he also was a coach and umpire for many years. He was also a long-time secretary and coordinator of the Livingston Hockey Club.
For many years, John was a business consultant and owner of several national businesses.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Gail (Mohr), his devoted sons: John E., III and his children Samantha, Allison and Steven; Jeffrey and wife Cheryl and their children Christopher, Nicole, Justin and Kevin; Clifford and wife Barbara and their children Matthew, Lilly and Grace; Chip and wife Stephanie and their children Jordyn, Jacob and Nicholas; Erik and wife Heidi and their children Emma and Sean. John is also survived by his brother Thomas.
