

Joseph L. Scardena, 85, passed away at Alaris Health of West Orange on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. His family will receive relatives and friends at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., on Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 2 until 6 PM. The Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Philomena’s Church, 386 S. Livingston Ave., Livingston, on Monday, February 13, at 10:30 AM. Cremation will be private.
Born in Newark, Joseph and his wife grew up in Irvington moving to Livingston 58 years ago. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps during the Korean War seeing action in the brutal Wonsan-Hungnam-Chosen Campaign. He was a proud member of the Livingston Veterans of Foreign Wars #2856.
Joseph retired after many years as a sheet metal mechanic for Sheet Metal Workers Union #25.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Connie (Doyle), his devoted children: Kathy Leong (Roland), Stephen (Ellen), Joseph (Sally), Mary Ellen Stefanak (Frank) and Len; he is also survived by his eight loving grandchildren,
Tai, Dean, Scott, Allison, Stephen, Alex, Michael and Rachel.
