She was born on November 7, 1962, in Brooklyn, New York, to Robert and MaryAnn Kallem, and grew up in Garden City, New York. As a child, she enjoyed playing basketball, softball and badminton, bowling, riding her bike around town, and dancing with the Antranig Armenian Dance Ensemble.
Lisa graduated from Garden City High School in 1980 and continued her education at Adelphi University, pursuing an interest in fashion merchandising. She began her career as a merchandise buyer, working for A&S and later Cerutti on Madison Ave, and most recently managed a local children’s clothing store. She truly loved to work, finding great joy in retail.
Throughout her life, Lisa loved to travel, taking trips with her friends before her marriage, and later traveling extensively with her husband and family.
In 1989, Lisa married Mark, whom she had first met when they shared the very same childhood Sunday school class at the Armenian Church of the Holy Martyrs. Shortly after their wedding, they moved to New Jersey. Navigating the move away from her hometown, Lisa took great pride in raising her three children: Alexis, Michael, and Steven. She was deeply loved by them and never missed a beat…always ready to drive to early morning hockey practices or shuffling her kids around town. While raising her family, she was also a dedicated and active member of St. Mary Armenian Church in Livingston.
Lisa cherished spending time at her family's home in Manasquan, New Jersey, where she loved the beach, being in the sun and gathering with the “Beach Kef” crew. She enjoyed hosting parties and gatherings, no matter how informal. A lifelong beachgoer, Lisa's love for the shore began when she was young, spending summer weekends at Rockaway Beach alongside other Armenian families. She truly enjoyed the little things in life, and her favorite memories were simply being together with her family.
Lisa is survived by her husband, Mark; her three children, Alexis, Michael, and Steven; her mother, MaryAnn Kallem; and her brother, Craig Kallem. She was predeceased by her father, Robert Kallem.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27 from 4-8 PM at the St. Mary Armenian Church, Livingston, NJ. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 28 at 10AM at the church, with entombment to follow at Atlantic View Cemetery and Mausoleum, Manasquan.
