

A long time Livingston resident, Peggy was born in Bantry, County Cork, Ireland in 1930, and came to the US in 1954. She was pre-deceased by her parents Charles and Eileen (nee O’Connor) O’Donovan, brother Jerry, and sisters Anna, and Eileen. Her father served in the US Army during WWI and was wounded during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in 1918. Her loving husband, James F. Cooney, passed in 1994 and had served in the US Army during the Korea Conflict.
Mrs. Cooney worked for many years as a paralegal at Lord, Day, and Lord in New York City, and a fifty-plus year member of the Saint Philomena’s congregation.
Peggy is survived by her loving son, James P. Cooney, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family both in the United States and Ireland.
A viewing is scheduled for Tuesday June 24, 2025, at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home in Livingston from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be held starting at 9 AM at Quinn-Hopping on Wednesday. A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Philomena’s Roman Catholic Church in Livingston at 10 AM with internment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
