

Despite having polio as an infant and being on crutches, she graduated from Orange H.S. in 1954 winning numerous awards for her singing and was named "most talented." She had a beautiful singing voice and would sing at military camps, hospitals, churches, concerts, musicals and in competitions. She made a career in accounting as a front desk secretary. In 1963 she married Kenneth at Our Lady Help of Christians church in East Orange. They moved to Livingston in 1971. Throughout her life she enjoyed singing and horseback riding for which she won many awards in dressage. She also enjoyed swimming, bowling and spending time with family and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents, Harold and Elizabeth Cowan; sister, Jean Claire Cowan; and brother, Richard Cowan.
She leaves her loving husband of 62 years, Kenneth C. Thompson; a daughter, Karen Elizabeth Mazowiecki; and a granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Mazowiecki. She is also survived by two brothers, William Cowan and his wife Ethel, and James Cowan, all of Livingston; sister-in-law, Gladys Cowan; nieces, Lynn Bliss of Takoma Park, Md, Jennifer Cowan of Waterville Valley, N.H., Kathleen Corlew of San Diego, and Kimberly Cowan of Cedar Knolls, N.J.; and a nephew, William J. Cowan of E. Hanover, N.J.
Family and friends are invited to attend a four-hour Visitation on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston, NJ, from 4:00pm – 8:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Saint Philomena Roman Catholic Church, 386 S Livingston Ave., Livingston, NJ, at 10:00am, with a Committal to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
