Dear Pastor Philip... I just cannot reconcile myself to the fact that you are gone, speak about you in past tense or say goodbye. Thoughts of you still so real, memories so fresh and expectations of seeing, talking, laughing, disagreeing, fighting, eating, sharing deep thoughts, initiative and planning the next meeting all still so high.
You were so much to me my wife, children, parents, siblings and family. You knew their names, strengths, challenges and all. You were devoted to us and we all felt specially loved. I thought this was unique to us and now find that you gave as much to others in same measure and passion. What a guy! Still.. I believe you loved my wife specially, she could do no wrong in your eyes just like her two other fathers.. Her biological Dad and my own Dad. You saw special good in us all your friends, flock mentees, acquaintances and all. You were sharp and always read between the lines. You drew out secrets I struggled to tell and you saw my family 360° and still loved us 100% .. What a guy! You loved your family passionately and was fiercely devoted to them. No half measures with you Bro and never pulled the punches not even with beloved friends. I knew the depth of your love and stood toe-to-toe with you in arguments in confidence of your love regardless. I met you in my early faith and professional struggles. You stood by me personally in my toughest and darkest moments. You prayed and stayed on the phone with me during very difficult nights praying and encouraging... saying Pastor Nkem .. Fight! Fight! Don't give up.. saying to my wife, you will not be a widow.... this "very handsome " man will not die... Pastor .. you  would have laughed cynically here. Once you loved someone, that was it, your devotion was total, absolute. You called  our marriage right.. I can't  thank you enough... You did all these with others as well. God bless and rest your beautiful soul. Man is spirit, which does not die... I know this cos I know you just cant die

Pastor Phil 
It's hard to believe that you have been called back home by God our creator. You were my mentor and pastor.  You exhibited so much faith and you loved God dearly with everything you have. You lived an impactful and purposeful life. You were so caring and at the same time full of rib-cracking humor.  You were there from the beginning when I gave my life to Christ and always encouraging, advising, and chastising me if need be. Words cannot be used to describe or compose how I feel. You are an Apostle of the gospel of Jesus Christ, a mentor, pastor, leader, confidant, friend, and friend of God.
I will not forget your prayers and hands laying on my head each time I was to take my professional exams and you will tell me that I had already passed, and it was always so.
I strongly believe you are with God, and we shall meet again on resurrection morning where all things are glorious. You fought a good fight of faith; you completed and won the race and God will gloriously crown you. I could go on and on.  Because you were my mentor, I named one of my girls after your daughter. I know God loves you more and we surely submit to His perfect Will which we cannot question. My autobiography cannot be complete without mentioning your name. 
You were God sent to fulfill a purpose in this generation which you did. May the grace and mercy of God continue to guild, protect, and lead you sister Pat, Junior, Zara, Davida and Doyina. As written in Romans 8: 35-39. No one will separate you from the love of Jesus Christ.




To my Daddy and friend,

No words I could ever have will do justice to the person that you were. It’s been over two weeks and I’m still at a loss for words that when I pray, all I’m able to offer up is thank you Lord for giving me a daddy like mine and I miss him so much.
Thank you Daddy for living a full life- one that’s worthy of emulating. Thank you for loving truely and fiercely and for challenging everyone around you to live more like Jesus.
Thank you for always pointing us to Jesus: in our joys and our sorrows alike. Thank you for caring for the people and things we care for so deeply.
Thank you for giving me your infectious laugh and wicked sense of humour.
Thank you for telling us the same jokes over and over again. The ones were we already know the punchline and that somehow never ruins the joke. 
Thank you for waking the whole house up with your snoring or your whistling but usually your worship.
Thank you for teaching us to treat everyone with respect, integrity, kindness and intentionality. I’ve never once had to doubt your love or your friendship and for that I am grateful. Thank you for sacrificing so much for us: some of which we may never know of this side of heaven. You often told me how proud of us all you were. Now it’s my turn to say it back. I am so incredibly proud of you and so certain that our God welcomed you with words like these: “Well done good and faithful servant. You have fought the good fight, you have finished your course and kept your faith. Welcome home son”

Till we meet again Daddy. In the meantime, I’ll whisper my ‘I love you toos’ to Heaven

I have known Pastor Phillip all my adult life. He was the one who led me to Christ and nurtured me since. 

“21st century woman,” he would always hail me! Pastor was deeply interested in my life - he was not just my Father-in-the-Lord but he was a father indeed! Even my parents note how much value he has added to my life! He was mentor and friend but not only to me, to my husband Chidiebere too. I remember having to take him, then as my fiancé to meet with Pastor Philip, knowing he would love him because they were so much alike! And they ended up being great friends! So much so that Chidiebere was a guest in Pastor’s house in New Jersey even before I was. Pastor’s house was our house…that’s how much he loved us! 

Pastor, I have so many stories to tell, but I will have yet to recover from the shock of the news. I still shed tears whenever I remember. I can’t help but feel like you left us just when it was time to enjoy the fruit of your labour, but I trust that God, our sovereign but loving father, knows what He is doing – afterall, my dear Pastor, you taught me that. 

I pray for grace and fortitude for my dear Sister Pat, Junior, Zara, Davida & Dowina. It is tough, but we accept our beloved's passing as the will of the Lord.

Dearest Daddy,

Over the past few months, I found myself reflecting on how much of who I am is owed to the way you brought me up and as I look back again, it’s so clear to see how your parenting was so meticulously inspired by your rare and potent sense of what it means to be a child of the Most High God. You didn’t take your sonship lightly and were fiercely committed to living a life that abounded in the joy of being God’s beloved child, coupled with the great responsibility that your sonship demands. 

When I think of the pieces of yourself you shared with me, I’m most thankful for your boisterous belly laugh that could light up a room; And the way you so intentionally regarded people, often referring to those you met as ‘friend’ - from the youngest children to the oldest souls; And the way you taught me to always leave things better than I found them; And the way you emphasised the importance of doing everything (no matter how seemingly mundane) with excellence; And your childlike wonder; And the strength of your convictions; And the way you knew that life’s pleasures are made sweeter when shared with loved ones - like when you’d always offer me a cup of tea, simply because you wanted me to ‘commune’ with you in something you enjoyed. The list could continue.

As I rummaged through and assembled these pieces of yourself that you gave me, I was left with a very clear picture of love. And while I didn’t know then, that picture would so soon come to serve as but a memory of you, I'm thankful to unequivocally know how fiercely you loved and impacted me and many others you encountered. 

Daddy, you were a vivacious presence and your absence is difficult to comprehend. You certainly left the world better than you found it and you’re terribly missed. However, I’m comforted in knowing that you’re singing worship at the top of your lungs as you so enjoyed, and tearing up the dance floor in the presence of your Father who you loved more than life itself.  

What words can I say.  Indeed it was a shock when I was told of your passing.

I remember the days of RCCG Pentecost Revival Center when i met you through Hepzebah and Edwin Egede.

I found you a very fun and jovial man. I remember that your laugh it was so infectious.  You used to shout Omo Prof whenever you saw  me. I would love listening to your analytics of lifes issues.  The last time we spoke was many years back when you told me qbout the book you had just written on i believe personel management.  

I didnt hear from.you for a while with the busyness of things only for me to hear you had relocated ans then we lost touch.

But people like you, no matter the distance our always memorable.

I remember your passion
I remember your laugh
I remember the word spoken
I remember the man Phillip Eyam-Ozung.

We have lost a husband, father, son, and friend.

But heaven has gained an angel

A saint goes to rest. 
It is well, you came like an angel 😇 rest on and we all shall meet at Jesus feet. Be encouraged he only sleeps. Heavens gain and earth loss. Rest on sir. 

Pastor Phil, the thought of addressing you in the past is very difficult for me, from the first day l met you in RCCG Pentecoat Revival Centre in Owolewa Street, in Surulere, we became so close that you accepted me as a mentee in my Christian journey. Worst of all is that on Wednesday April 12, 2023 you called me at about 1:49pm and we spoke at length about everyone, you even told me about how when Junior was a baby how he was so quiet, that a friend who heard that you had a baby boy kept on coming and did not notice junior quiet in his cot.  He had to ask  about your son and you said to him, see him in his cot and junior was in his cot quiet as usual and awake.
Pastor Phil, how be it that it was a good bye, that we would never speak again.  Little did  l know you were calling to bid us good bye.  oh my heart is so heavy that l'm still in disbelief and still coming to terms with the news of your demise.
Pst Phil, you made an impact in my life and that of my family, l will forever be grateful to God for using you to guide me in my Christian formative years, and even as we matured, you continued by sharing great insights through your monthly Faith Advantage Bulletins.
We would surely miss you Pastor Phil, sleep well  in the bosom of the Lord and continue to shine to the glory of the Lord.

Wiwangha - it’s been a really long couple of days. I’ve intermittently flowed in and out of wondering, and hoping this has all been one big long nightmare. Hoping to wake up and narrate it to you, and then to pray that the dream does not come true

When we started this journey together thirty three years ago, it was entirely premised on what we firmly believed was in line with God’s divine will. I’ve spent several days reliving the evening of 12 April when you picked me up from the train station, had a meal together, watched tv, talked some, and retired for the night. And then the morning of 13 April when I saw you breathing in normal sleep as I went out to start my day. 

I’ve wondered many times what could have altered what eventually became the outcome the same morning. I have hoped for a miracle. And here we are, where I have come to quiet resolve, to submit yet again, to the divine will of our Father in heaven, who loves us beyond words and always works out what’s best for us

So at this point, I celebrate the incredibly impactful life you lived. I’m so glad and feel privileged that I had the opportunity to share your time here, irrespective of how short it was. You lived with clear sense of mission and vigorously pursued your goals. You lived for more than just you - I lose count of how many times you stopped your program to help out someone who need a hand.  You were totally unequivocal in your pursuit of God, and in living out your faith. You lived life with a vigor and joy that was unmistakable to everyone you met. You loved passionately and were often the champion of the underdog. Taking the lead in many situations was second nature to you, and you poured out so much of your life mentoring so many 

And my, were you a family man! You loved us with a passion and did everything in your power to give us a good and fruitful life. Now we have an aching void which hurts

We had so much planned for the future. I have no idea what that future looks like at this mo

The memories of the just is sweet and Beautiful so many have been racing in our minds. From the days of little beginnings as the Pioneer Youth Pastor at the Resistance Movement fellowship LASU and Rccg Pentecost Revival Centre respectively. Our relationship with you and your Beloved Wife Sister Pat, evolved to Friendship then Family . There was hardly a dull moment with you. You had a nickname for me, my wife including our children. 

Pastor Philip had a rare, radical, dogged faith, a selfless commitment towards the  kingdom and service of God. Pastor had a pure, childlike heart which was remarkable and made it so easy to relate with him. Even when we all moved on you made sure you kept in touch and they were quite significant occasions.  We cherish those precious memories and will keep them alive in our hearts. May the Lord comfort Sister Pat, his children, mother, siblings, family and friends.

Tribute

Dear Pst Phil,
Your departure is so sudden, it took us all by surprise. 
RCCG Pentecost Revival Center, Owolewa, Surulere, Lagos was the 1st RCCG parish l attended when l moved to Lagos in 1998, this is where l first met you. I sat under your teaching during digging deep. I still remember the Sunday, after having been a member of the church for some time, you called for me to handle sunday school and that was it. You were a people builder and l am a beneficiary of that gift. You groomed me to become the best version of myself and to discover my gift in ministry. You have raised so many soldiers for the Lord in The Redeemed Christian Church of God and beyond. You have been my Pastor, mentor and friend.
You also have a gift for remembering names. You know every member of my family and make it a point of duty to ask after every one. You did same when we spoke last, on Wednesday 12th April 2023. I did not know it will be our last conversation, l did not know you were saying goodbye!

It has been an honor knowing you and serving Christ with you.

The entire family of Mr & Mrs  Uduak Ewitat received with deep shock and sorrow  but with submission  to the will of God the news of the call to glory of your beloved husband, father, apostle and faithful servant of God and hereby express our heartfelt condolences to you and the entire family. He was indeed a strong pillar of the family, visionable  and  dependable friend to all that   that were part of  his life journey .
Words cannot convey our tears but we are comforted that God that he served  is in need of him more.  He has fought a good fight . He has kept the faith  and has finished the race

I met Pastor Philip twice when he stayed with his family at Jordan Terraces Lekki. He struck me as a particularly cerebral person even though we discussed for a few minutes. I looked forward to his next visit, but sadly never had the pleasure. His wit and quiet sense of humour were the most striking and enduring qualities qualities about him.

PEO, you came with a message from God and delivered this through your writings. Rest well beloved of God.
