Having just celebrated his 88th birthday, Philip ‘Pop’ John Farinella, Sr, left this world and his very proud extended Family. The son of Italian immigrants, he grew up in Newark and in his last year of pharmacy school at Fordham University, he met Joyce, who joined him in Livingston for a 65 year journey. Thanks to his diligence and business savvy and her Italian cooking and persistent parenting, his very successful chain of local pharmacies allowed them to travel with their 5 children and educate all of them through college, 1 through medical school, 1 through law school and 2 followed in his footsteps through pharmacy school. Education was their resolute credo, a legacy which has also been ingrained into the next generation of 12 successful grandchildren. Fortunately, Phil survived to see his first great grandchildren, twins born to his eldest grandson, a physician in California. And there are more on the way. Ask Joyce any time for her proud updates. Anyone lucky enough to experience the Italian culture should know its pillars, to which Phil was steadfast: first and foremost, Family; second, Respect, which he earned and enjoyed his entire life; and finally, Love, which he abundantly gave as much as he received. Memories of Pop will be cherished for generations.
