Wilfredo P. Montemayor “Bong”, age 77, of Livingston, NJ, peacefully passed away on Sunday November 21, 2021 at St. Barnabas Medical Center surrounded by his wife Blandina, daughters Ellen, Pauline and son Willy. Bong was born in Alaminos, Pangasinan, Philippines to Pedro and Concepcion Perez Montemayor. He spent his formative years at Ateneo de Manila and graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology College of Engineering.
Bong met his wife, Blandina, in Jersey City, married in 1976 and settled in Livingston in 1981 where they raised three children and continued to reside. Wilfredo was a devoted husband, brother, father, and grandfather “Lolo Bong”. He worked as an electrical designer for many years and later worked at St. Barnabas Medical Center. After retiring, he spent his time volunteering at Care One Assisted Living Facility in Livingston bringing Holy Communion to residents and praying the Holy Rosary with them. He volunteered at the Franciscan Friars soup kitchen in Newark. He was also a Eucharistic Minister at St. Philomena Parish. He was an active member of the Bukas Loob sa Diyos (BLD) community for 25 years and led various ministries with Blandina.
In his spare time, Bong enjoyed playing chess, listening to oldies music, exercising, watching various sports, especially boxing and was an avid fan of Manny Pacquiao. He loved planning family vacations all over the world including Europe, the Philippines, the Caribbean, Mexico, and all throughout the USA. To learn more about his faith, he enjoyed watching EWTN, reading and reflecting on The Bible. One of his favorite books and inspirations is “Story of a Soul”, the autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux. His favorite quote is “Do not lose sight of the summit. It is a hard and tiring ascent every day. But do not be discouraged. Be confident that you will reach it with the help of the Lord.” – Pope John Paul II.
Bong is survived by his beloved wife Blandina, his loving children, Ellen and her husband Pete Bakarich III, Pauline and Willy, and his grandchildren, JP and Emily Bakarich. He is also survived by his siblings, Gloria Montemayor, Severina Santos, Connie Bernardi and Pete Montemayor, and his numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, who were all fond of his mild mannered and humble ways.
