Allan was born in Hyannis, Nebraska on December 16, 1941, to Joe Hayward and Etta Elizabeth Beem Bump. Growing up the oldest of eight children, Al loved to ride horses and work outside. He played many sports in school including basketball, track, and wrestling. He also attended Boys State. After graduation from Lead High School, Lead, South Dakota, he moved to Colorado to attend Denver University for accounting. While attending college, he worked for Occidental Fire and Casualty. After college, he worked at Hamilton Management Corp. and Hiram C. Gardner, Inc. preparing him for his move Connecticut. In 1972, Al and his family moved to Connecticut where he was the Assistant Secretary for The Hartford Insurance Company. The family returned to Colorado in 1977 where Al owned his own business, Bump and Associates LLC, until he retired in 2016.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jan and sons, Jason (Deb) and Patrick (Tara). Al will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Allie (Mario), Liam and Caitlin, his brothers, Don (Paula), Ron (Karen), Joe and Gary Lee, his sister Renee, numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family Laura (Chris) McDonald and their children Hannah and Joelle and Larry (Lisa) McGrew and their children Graylon and Colton. He was preceded in death by his father Joe Hayward, mother Etta Elizabeth, and sisters, Judy Stevenson and Donna McConnell.
Al had a passion for life and lived it to its fullest. A true cowboy at heart, he loved all western movies and spending time outdoors; camping, hiking, hunting, and fishing just to name a few.
As an avid canoer and Assistant Guide, he visited many beautiful areas only accessible by canoe. He loved square dancing and western dancing, which he taught and is where he met his wife Jan. He was an ace at cards and had an infectious laugh we will never forget. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and his dog Dale.
