We said goodbye to a great man, Archibald (Archie) Stevenson, early Monday morning, February 17, 2025, just over a month shy of his 96th birthday, March 31, 1929. He lived a rich, full life with his wife of 72 years, Una, always by his side raising 3 sons and enriching the lives of many people in his local community as well as across the US and world through his service to others.
He was a faithful man, living his beliefs through kindness to others regardless of religion, politics, race or disability. Throughout his life he held many positions within his local church as well as state and nation-wide to advocate for the equal treatment of all. He worked with Una on their joint activities to help end apartheid in South Africa, advocated against domestic violence and worked to end sex-trafficking worldwide via the UN and other international organizations - he continued these activities until very recently which was a testament to his conviction to help serve others. He also served his local community faithfully, working for many years as a Lay Pastor visiting the sick, elderly and home-bound, as well as serving the very doctors, nurses and technicians at the hospital where he passed, many of whom visited him in his final days expressing their gratitude for his help through their dark days of dealing with sickness and death.
He was also a dedicated family man and was actively involved in raising his sons and showing them an example of a great father. Their days as a family were spent adventuring via hiking, camping, road tripping, and exploring the beauty of this great country. He also served as Cubmaster and Scoutmaster for all of their years in Scouting, as well as serving as a volunteer trainer for other Scout leaders earning the highest national award for his service. He did all these things while commuting daily 1.5 hours each way to/from work so that his family could live in a community which gave them the best opportunity to thrive and grow - producing 2 engineers and a college professor/researcher, with 5 grandchildren in varied careers such as anthropology, movie director, lawyer, and doctors to-be, and 3 great-grandchildren poised to do great things too! He is survived by his wife, Una (Osborne) Stevenson and sons, Nigel Stevenson (Christine), Brian Stevenson (Debbie), and Ian Stevenson (Kiersten), as well as grandchildren Alexander (Pamela), Arkasha, Graham (Molly), Holland, and Abigail, and great-grandchildren Harper, Archie, and Quinn.
We will be celebrating his rich life at a local service at Central Presbyterian Church in Longmont, Colorado, on March 8th @ 10 am, and will be joined by his loving family and friends from around the country and world. We all miss him more than words can express and thank him so much for everything he did and all of his sacrifices for his family.
