Barbara Ann Atkins

Barbara Ann Atkins, 66, of Longmont, died November 2, 2012 at the Peaks Care Center. She was born April 8, 1946 in Haxtun, Colorado the daughter of Eldred and Ruth Soliday Atkins. Following her high school graduation she went on to attend DU where she received her Bachelors Degree before taking the major step to move to the East Coast to attend and graduate with a Masters Degree from Cornell University. She was an avid supporter of the BPOE #1055 Elks Auxiliary and through that organization was actively involved with the Little Britches Rodeo and the cross-stitching and knitting groups. She also enjoyed knitting sweaters and shawls for many family members. Over the years she had made a number of afghans for children and families in need.

Barbara worked for STA Seed Company as an advanced lab technician analyzing new and hybrid strains of seeds.

She is survived by her half sister Marylee (Robert) Nurmi of Roswell, NM and her nieces Kristine (Terry) Percy of Firestone, CO, Louann (Roger) Manem and Kathy White of Roswell NM and her nephew Kenneth Nurmi of Longview, WA. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the Howe Mortuary Chapel. A reception will follow at the Longmont Elks Club.
