She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Bob Barker, of Longmont, Colorado; two sons, Dean Barker of Round Rock, Texas and David Barker of Longmont, Colorado; two daughters-in-law, Lynn and Terry; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters.
Bobbye, the youngest of three children, was born July 21, 1929 in Oklahoma City but her family moved to Dallas, Texas when she was six months old. She lived in Dallas until she and Bob moved to Austin, Texas in 1968. Bobbye attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas and El Centro Junior College in Dallas. When her children were born, Bobbye stayed home to raise them, eventually returning to work as an office manager for a medical practice. Ultimately, she became the Assistant Administrator of the Allan Shivers Radiation Therapy Center which, at the time, was the only cancer treatment facility in Austin. She remained at the Shivers Center until she retired in 1992. Bobbye and Bob moved to Longmont, Colorado to be close to David and Terry in 2012.
Bobbye was a voracious, wide-ranging reader who always had multiple books going at once. She enjoyed working in her garden until her knees no longer allowed her to crawl around the flowerbeds. She loved Tex-Mex food (especially with a cold beer) and was willing to consume astonishing quantities of ice cream anytime, anyplace. She was also devoted to her faith and a life-long member of the Presbyterian church.
At Bobbye’s request, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to a non-profit of your choice in Bobbye’s memory. Fond memories and condolences may be shared at www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com.
