

Bruce was born in Topeka, Kansas in 1952 to Lois and Clyde A. Phillips.
He graduated from Topeka West High School in 1970. He continued his education at Washburn University and the University of Kansas in Lawrence for Liberal Arts. He attended Eastern Washington University for Business Management. Then he finished his education at the University of Colorado to study Computer Science and Business.
Bruce started his career in telecommunications, he started by following in his father's footsteps by working Southwestern Bell. Before moving to Cheney, Washington he worked for Henkel and McCoy as well as Mountain Bell. He then moved to Colorado where Mountain Bell became US WEST. He continued to work in the communications industry where he faced the challenge of US WEST and Time Warner merging. The merger turned into Quests Communications. He was named the pioneer of communications at Quest. The company then became CenturyLink/Lumen Technologies, he then retired. Bruce's career included international work in Russian aiding in establishing long distance service to many other parts of the world. During his time in the industry he created patents to aid in better communications. He held over 70 patents from CAT series communication lines to the scripts that bridged international waters, keeping us connected in every way possible.
Bruce is preceded in death by his parents Clyde A. and Lois Phillips, maternal and paternal grandparents, and nephew Jason Iams.
He is survived by his son Forrest Phillips, wife Sharman Heotis, sister Pam Iams (Ronnie Stewart), nephew David Iams (Sandy), Dillion, Ashton, and family. Brother and Sister-in-law, Peter Heotis (Peggy Heotis), nieces Kathryn Oldenborg (Ron Oldenborg), great nieces and nephews, niece Laura Heotis (dan Greiling) and brother-in-law Bob Karolich and family.
