As a child Calvin loved riding his bicycle which translated into one of his first jobs as a young adult (after a stint at Harmony House), serving as a bicycle messenger in San Francisco, CA and Detroit, MI. His love of music translated to a time as a luthier. His love of animals developed into his pet walking business Daytime Doggy Daddy. Calvin also spent time as a medical assistant, Segway tour guide, and a property manager, among other eclectic jobs.
Calvin excelled at loving and caring for his many pets over the years and enjoyed tinkering on projects throughout the houses in which he lived. At various times he was passionate about martial arts and mountain biking. While he enjoyed spending time alone, he had deep friendships.
Calvin is survived by his father, Ken Graning, Jr, his sister Katalin Graning, and his ex-wife and dear friend, Melanie Reiser. Calvin is preceded in death by his mother, Judith Graning, and his nephew, Geoffrey (Pasha) Berkowitz.
We will be celebrating Calvin’s life through the sharing of stories and pictures via Zoom on Sunday, April 18 from 1pm MDT/3pm EDT – 3pm MDT/5pm EDT. The family will communicate details as the date gets closer.
If you would like to make a donation or gift in Calvin's memory we suggest the following possibilities as they represent important aspects of his life - first, supporting equality, respect, and well-being for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer people, and, second, his love for and protection of animals.
