Catherine ""Cathy"" Brown

Cathy was born on April 22, 1926 in Casselton, ND to the late Mary and James Greis. In her early childhood until adulthood, she was raised by the late Laura Port. Upon graduation from high school, Cathy earned her Registered Nursing designation at St. John’s Hospital in Fargo, ND. In her early 20s, she married Robert J. Campion of Anoka, MN. On April 10, 1955, Robert Campion died suddenly, leaving Cathy to raise and support two sons, Robert Joseph, then 4, and Patrick John, an infant.

After being introduced by mutual friends, Cathy married Joseph Patrick Brown in Moorhead, MN on December 29, 1961. A few years later, Cathy and Joe had a son, Thomas Paul, and the family moved to Denver, CO in 1967. In 1972, the family relocated to Longmont, CO, and later, to Memphis, TN for a brief period, before returning to Longmont as their final destination.

As a registered nurse, Cathy was a dedicated caregiver. She enjoyed knitting, ceramics, and other arts and crafts. Cathy enjoyed summer weekends at the cabin with the family at Big Elk Meadows, road trips in their RV, and traveling. She was a devoted servant of her Catholic faith and a regular volunteer with her women’s group at St. John the Baptist Church in Longmont.

A debilitating stroke left Cathy partially paralyzed and unable to speak, read, or write in her final years. However, she looked forward to Joe’s daily visits, was always happy to see her family and friends, and would chuckle at stories about the past. In April 2015, Cathy lost Joe, her husband of 54 years, to pancreatic cancer.

Throughout her life, Cathy was devoted to her family. She is survived by her sons, Robert Campion, of Anthem, AZ; Patrick Campion (Katy), of Parker, CO; and Thomas Brown (Colleen), of Longmont, CO; her four grandchildren, Jennifer Campion Friberg; Michelle Campion Secrest; Madison Brown; and Jackson Brown, and four great-grandchildren, Drew Friberg; Molly Friberg; Lexie Secrest; and Luke Secrest.

A Rosary will be held at Howe Mortuary on March 12, 2018 at 6:00 P.M. The Memorial Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 13 at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be with Cathy’s late husband, Joseph Brown, at Ft. Logan National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont.
