

Charles LeRoy Carter, Sr. of Longmont, Colorado died Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Longmont United Hospital. He was 71. Le Roy, as he was referred to by his family, was born October 4, 1937 in Denver, Colorado to Russell L. and Helen (West) Carter. He grew up on the Hiwan Ranch where he raised show cattle until he joined the United States Navy. He served in the Navy for three years and the Naval Reserves for an additional three years. LeRoy married Colleen V. Riddle in Denver, Colorado on May 20, 1960. LeRoy worked on a dairy farm and then began employment with Anderson Farms that lasted for 38 years before he retired. At Anderson Farms, he fed cattle, helped to maintain the equipment used in the feeding operation, and performed many other farm related tasks. Other than work, LeRoy did not have many outside interests except for his family. He loved spending time with them and having family reunions. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Phillip and twin grandsons. LeRoy is survived by his wife Colleen; his five children: Carol Hurt and her husband Stuart of Berthoud, Cindy Hergenreder and her husband Jim of Longmont, Connie Ansell and her husband Jeff of Longmont, Cathy Franklin of Florida, and Charles Carter, Jr. and his wife Jan of Texas; three brothers: Dave Carter of Oklahoma, Gary Carter and his wife Dee of California, and J. C. Carter and his wife Diane of Kansas; eleven grandchildren: B. J. and Jana, Emily, Matthew, Katie and Ryan, J. J. and Jenny, Zachary, Ashley, Christian, Brandon, Dale, and Dakota; and five great grandchildren. Memorial services will take place at Howe Mortuary on Saturday, December 27 at 2:00 p.m. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services.
