Cindy Lea O’Hare dearest mother and grandmother, departed from this earth at age 56 on May 31st 2019 at her home in Loveland, Colorado. She was born in Fort Riley, Kansas and spent a short time in her childhood in Texas before settling to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the remainder of her teenage years. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa in 1980.
Shortly after, she gave birth to her eldest daughter, April, and met her husband of 14 years, John O’Hare Jr. Her second child, Jonathan was also born in Tulsa before they moved to Longmont, Colorado after a brief stint in Lincoln, Nebraska. Cindy loved living in Longmont and went on to make it her home; it was the birthplace of her remaining 5 children, Danielle, Dominic, Gabrielle, Chelsey, and Damien. She recently moved to Loveland, but considered Longmont her home.
Cindy was always an incredibly caring person. She made it a point to keep up correspondence with her friends and family throughout the years and even managed to keep one penpal from the time she was a teenager, all the way into her 40’s. She was a sentimental person, keeping newspaper clippings and cards about those who she knew. Her nurturing nature not only made her the perfect candidate for a mother, but also served her well as both a daycare provider as well as a Certified Nurses Aide. She ran her own licensed, in-home day care center for 13 years, as well as worked as a CNA for Longmont United Hospital for 20 years.
She loved going to concerts and hearing live music as well as attending other kinds of performing arts events. Her favorite music started out with classic rock (some of her favorites included the Bay City Rollers, Kansas, Fleetwood Mac, Journey, and more). She ended up being quite eclectic in her musical tastes as she joined her children in whatever concerts and shows that they enjoyed attending. She was very supportive of her children’s interests and hobbies. As they were growing up, you would find her spending much of her time shuttling them around to various parades, jobs, and sports practices, like soccer and wrestling. Raising 7 children meant that she was an incredibly busy woman, but she always found time to send out cards and check in with everyone who she loved. People often complain that it’s hard to make friends as an adult, but Cindy made friends wherever she went.
It was incredibly important to Cindy to perform acts of service for others. She was very proud of the fact that she donated more than 9 gallons of blood throughout her life to Bonfils Blood Center. And every Thursday she volunteered her time to deliver food for those in need. Sadly, just as she was sending her last child into adulthood, she was diagnosed with stage 4 tongue cancer and had to undergo a massive, dangerous surgery to remove her tongue. This should have been the era of her life when she got to reclaim her time, and do all of the things she never had time to do while she raised her kids. But, Cindy was not one to spend a lot of time feeling sorry for herself. Through sheer stubborn will she survived the surgery and managed to beat the cancer, although it did rob her of the quality of her life. Despite this, she miraculously remained one of the most inspiring and positive people we all know. She continued to make time to pet sit for her family and friend’s animals, enjoyed being with her grandchildren, and even continued to do her Thursday food deliveries!
We will always miss Cindy Lea O’Hare. She may be physically gone, but she will remain in our hearts forever.
