Connie Young, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to family and community. She was born on July 6, 1950, in Denver, Colorado, to Fred Bernal and Mary Muniz and grew up in Castle Rock, CO.
A proud graduate of Douglas County High School in 1968, Connie went on to build a life rooted in care and service to others. She married the love of her life, William Young, on April 18, 1970, and together they created a warm and welcoming home in Longmont, CO, where they settled in 1991 after moving from Aurora.
Connie was a devoted mother to Russell Desersa-Young and Jennifer Sabo, both of Longmont, and a cherished grandmother to Ryan, Kevin, and Aidan Sabo. She was also a loving sister to Mary Esther Pyka, Dorothy Betz, Frank Bernal, John Bernal, and the late Della Hernandez, Al Bernal, and Ben Bernal. Beyond her immediate family, Connie’s heart and home were always open—she fostered over 150 children, embracing them as part of her extended family.
Connie retired from Cinnamon Park Assisted Living in Longmont but continued to serve them up until the week of her passing. Her generous spirit extended beyond her home. She and William served as foster parents for Lutheran Family Services and Boulder County for 22 years, making a lasting impact on countless lives. She also dedicated her time as a volunteer at the OUR Center, always striving to give back to her community.
She found joy in sewing, from costumes to tablecloths and face masks, and loved cooking, trying new recipes, and reading cookbooks just for fun. Connie’s enthusiasm for celebrating every holiday—especially Christmas and even Groundhog Day before it was “cool”—brought joy to those around her. She was known as the “Queen of Her Castle” and absolutely loved being a grandmother.
Connie’s faith was an essential part of her life. She was baptized at St. Francis and attended church at Aurora Presbyterian, Central Presbyterian, and most recently, Christ Our Savior in Longmont.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her unwavering love and dedication to family, friends, and community will continue to inspire those she touched. Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Salvation Army, or St. Joseph’s Indian School—causes close to her heart.
A life well-lived, Connie leaves behind not only cherished memories but also a legacy of love, generosity, and celebration that will be carried forward by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
