Curtis Hughes Jr.

Curtis Hughes Jr. was born February 28, 1944 in Cheneyboro (Navarro County), Texas to Curtis Hughes Sr. and Hazel Lee Evans Hughes. He grew up in and was raised in Navarro County, Texas. The family later moved to Childress, Texas in the 1950’s. He attended and graduated from J.J. Rhoads High School in Childress, Texas. Curtis, Jr. was raised and nurtured in the Church of God in Christ. While living in Colorado, Curtis attended Calvary Church at the time of his demise. Curtis joined and was a member of the United States Army, where he served until receiving an honorable discharge.

During his childhood, Curtis Jr. showed great intelligence and propensity towards ingenuity and technology. This lead to Curtis Jr. pursuing and securing a career at IBM, where he worked for more than 37 years. Because of his extreme intelligence, Curtis Jr. was the recipient of many awards and recognitions throughout his lifetime and career. He was a true music lover, loved all types of music, and enjoyed playing the keyboard. He also enjoyed skiing and staying active.

Curtis was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Hughes, Sr.; mother, Hazel Lee Hughes; brother, Albert Lee Hughes; and brother, Billy Frank Hughes. He is survived by his loving and beautiful wife, Felicidad Arcilla (Longmont, Co); his daughter, Shawna Monique Hughes (Arlington, TX); eight sisters – Artra May Buckley (Dallas, TX), Erma Jean Simms (Oklahoma City, OK), Virginia Williams (Longmont, CO), Sarah Kay Drew (Childress, TX), Rachel Horrice (Duncanville, TX), Florence Runae Collins (Dallas, TX), Hazel Doreen Hughes- Choyce (Thornton, CO), Christine Brown (Roderick) (Loganville, GA); and one brother Leonard Martin Hughes (Brenda) (Arlington, TX); three grandchildren – Dexter, Destiny, Yanna; four uncles – James Hughes (Dallas, TX); Bernell Evans (San Bernandina, CA), Robert Earl Evan (Dallas, TX); Billy Ray Evans (Las Vegas, NV); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
