Daniel Matthew Aschmann, 63, died of colon cancer at his home on June 23, 2016. He was born June 4, 1953 in Mexico City, to Herman Peter Aschmann and Elizabeth Dawson Aschmann. Dan was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a dedicated teacher.
Dan was raised in the jungles of Mexico among the Totonac Indian tribe in Vera Cruz, where his parents lived while translating the Bible into the Totonac language. As Dan grew up he was well known for his wild and adventurous spirit and his immense love for the outdoors. He loved to be in the mountains, especially rock climbing and enjoying the beauty of God’s creation.
“Danny” graduated from Oklahoma State University where he met the love of his life Diane McGranahan. They were then married on November 27, 1977 and the adventure truly began. Together they raised 4 children throughout many different states and career paths. They loved the mountains and so in 1991 the family finally settled and made their home in Longmont, where Dan was a Senior Software Engineer with Xerox.
One of Dan’s greatest joys was teaching others about the Bible. Through youth studies, adult Sunday school lessons, and history and theology classes he boldly shared God’s truth and what it meant to love and follow Christ.
Dan leaves behind his loving wife Diane Aschmann; children, Elizabeth (Jon) Downing, Crystal (Ben) Sutherland, Matthew (Vanessa) Aschmann and Michael Aschmann; precious grandchildren, Emelia, Izabella, Grady, Andrew, Aeden and a baby boy due in October; siblings, Tim (Sue), Rachel, and Rick (Betty) Aschmann; as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dan, was preceded in death by his brothers Rob and Johnny.
Visitation will be from 5pm until 7pm, Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman St. in Longmont. Funeral services will be held 10am, Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Calvary Church, 2101 Gay St. Interment will take place at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to LAIM (Latin American Indigenous Ministries). Funds will go to the ‘Herman Aschmann Memorial Center’ to carry on the work of training young Totonac Pastors in their dialect. Contributions can be sent to Howe Mortuary who will then forward on to LAIM.
